Plus Ultra Society

I love the idea created for the Disney movie, Tomorrowland.

The Plus Ultra Society was created some of the greatest minds of their time. They were dedicated to the cultivation of mankind’s greatest resource, imagination.

They stated that, “Since the dawn of recorded history, mankind has boldly pursued its destiny, bolstered by an unwavering belief in progress” and that “Many of the things that seem impossible now will become realities tomorrow.”

What if we took this concept farther? Who would be added to the society? I’ve added a post to this site, talking about people I find interesting you can find it HERE. Would some of these people join the society?

Check out this clip from the movie on the foundation of the Plus Ultra Society

Some great quotes from the movie:
”Imagine a place where nothing is impossible.”
”Have you ever wondered what would happen if all the great thinkers decided to get together?”
”We can, and always must, make our own future.”

The Founders:
Nikola Tesla – Inventor. Considered the “Father of Plus Ultra.”
Thomas Alva Edison – Inventor. Present at the founding meeting of Plus Ultra.
Alexandre Gustave Eiffel – Founding Plus Ultra engineer. Architect of their crowning discovery.
Jules Gabriel Verne – Writer and futurist.
Herbert George Wells – Writer and futurist.

From then on, others have been added to the society.

Early Members:
Amelia Earhart – Prominent Plus Ultra leader during the 1930s.
Leo Szilard – Invented the Atomic Bomb for Plus Ultra as an energy source.
Albert Einstein – Inventor and one of the few pacifist members of Plus Ultra.
Samuel Langhorne Clemens (Mark Twain) – Writer for Plus Ultra, friend of the founders.
Orson Welles – Narrator of Plus Ultra recruitment content during the 1939 Chicago World’s Fair.

Later Members:
Ray Douglas Bradbury – Futurist writer for Plus Ultra, one of the final inductions of the “Walt era.”
Walter Elias Disney – Theme Park magnate and optimistic futurist. Produced several secret Plus Ultra related attractions for the 1964 New York World’s Fair.

For a greater tomorrow, a tomorrow we need not fear, but aspire to.
